Bike Ride on the Golf Course - Shawn, Andrea, and Millie Mae

We were going to go for a walk yesterday and Andrea decided we should go for a bike ride instead. We don't ride our bikes as often as we should and it turned out to be a great idea. The yellow flies have a harder time keeping up with us, and it was a little cooler on the bikes than if we'd been walking. I had Millie Mae in her carrying sling at first, but when we got on the golf course I put her down and let her run along with us. We were worried she was getting tired since she had to run pretty fast to keep up with the bikes. We stopped at one point and Millie Mae was panting quite a bit, so I asked her if she wanted to ride with me. She turned away and trotted off, so that was a pretty clear answer.

Andrea stopped at Millie's favorite water station and got her a nice long drink of the water to help her cool off.

Camp Pinnacle Dropoff - Paige with Amanda and Graydon

This is the first year that Paige is going to Camp Pinnacle without Connor but she still has her cousin Graydon this year. We'd considered flying Paige to camp, but since Amanda was driving, Paige went along with them. We're excited to see the pics posted during her camp experience, it's my favorite part of the day when the kids are at camp, to check the app and see what they've been up to. We're also excited to see the pics Paige takes since we sent one of our old digital cameras along with her.

Sarah and Paige on SUP in Pond with the GoPro

Paige was home for a few days before heading to summer camp and she's a pro at finding things to do. Our neighbor Sarah came by and they swam in the pool for a while with Millie and then Paige came to my office to ask if I'd blow up the SUP so they could go out on the pond. I was in a meeting, but when it ended I went out and aired it up for them. I let them take the GoPro out for their adventure and Millie Mae came along as well.

Connor's Summer School Classes

Somehow, Connor convinced Andrea that it would be a good idea to take a couple of summer school courses through St. Johns River State College. He must have been in a productive and motivated mood when they signed up, and we're all kind of regretting it at the moment. Connor's regretting it because he'd much rather do nothing and play NBA2K on his Playstation all summer (not actually an option, but that's what he wants). Andrea's regretting it because if she doesn't stay on top of Connor, he'd probably forget to do his assignments, and wouldn't get things turned in on time. I'm regretting it because I have been proofreading the multiple papers that Connor's been writing. Connor's actually been improving with his writing and as he's going through the courses, his writing is requiring less and less changes, but it's a lot of work. His most recent paper was a two part assignment with a 4000 word requirement. It's a lot. I think he's actually learning a bit in his Political Science class, but not sure how much he's retaining in the Macroeconomics course. The good news is that the courses allow him to work at a fairly fast pace and he's hopefully going to be done with everything in the next week or so.

Swimming with GoPro, Sadie, and Gobles

Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, we did some swimming with Paige's friend, Sadie, and the Gobles. It was a hot day, so perfect for the pool, and we decided to test out the new GoPro to see how it did underwater. I was pretty disappointed with the quality of photos and videos that we got on our BVI trip recently, so decided to try out a GoPro. Paige had fun figuring it out and she got some fun underwater shots of all the action.

Andrea, Connor, and Millie Mae

Millie Mae got a haircut recently, and we snapped a pic of her with Andrea and Connor shortly before her cut. We love when her hair is long and she's a shaggy mess, but her hair gets so tangled and matted that we have to get it cut frequently, especially when it's summer and she's swimming a lot.

Table Rock Lake and Silver Dollar City - 2024

Monday, May 27th, we checked out of our Springfield hotel and we had a little time before we could check in to our house at Table Rock Lake. We had lunch at McAlister's Deli and then decided to do a little shopping at Bass Pro. The Bass Pro in Springfield is "The Grandaddy of All Outdoor Stores" according to their own description and the kids have never been in. Andrea and I went there from time to time when we were in college, and it was fun to see it again and to see the kids experience it for the first time. I was worried they'd think it was boring, but they both loved it. Paige got a pink Bass Pro hat and a Bass Pro sweatshirt that had Missouri on the back. Connor got a Bass Pro shirt featuring the NASCAR car that they sponsor. We picked up a few other things and actually didn't get very far through the store before we ran out of time. We probably only went through a quarter of the store before we left.

We drove to Table Rock Lake after a short drive and swam in the pool and lazy river until we were allowed to check in. After we checked in to our house at Watermill Cove and did some unpacking, we went to the pickleball court and played until we ran out of daylight.

Tuesday, May 28th, we went out on the lake in a pontoon boat with Captain Ryan. We'd had some warm days since we were in Missouri, but unfortunately it was a cool day on Tuesday. We had on our swimming gear, but most of us had jackets and hoodies on too.

We started off with some tubing and I went out with Connor a couple times. I took Griffin out on the tube for a nice chill ride, which he absolutely loved.

Paige and Nate went out together on the tube and then we threw out the Lily Pad and swam for a bit. It was a cool day, but the water was fairly warm and it wasn't so bad after we got in the water.

In the evening the kids played mini golf and we all played some more pickleball before heading back to the house for s'mores.

Wednesday, May 29th, was our Silver Dollar City day. Nate took Connor, Paige, and Graydon out in the morning and they got to the park at opening time. They rode some of the rides before the lines got long, and then we met up with them later in the morning. The first thing we did as a group was to take our old timey picture together, then we grabbed some lunch.

We all rode the train around the park before we split up and some of the more adventurous in the group rode the thrill rides.

In the late afternoon we all met up before the Gobles left for the day, and got a picture together.

Our family, along with the Nathan and Abby, went through the park on our own and rode the scariest coasters and finally the water raft ride, which absolutely drenched us.

Thursday was our last full day in Missouri. Andrea and I played pickleball in the morning with the Rudolphs, and the Gobles went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and then go carts with our kids and with Grandma Genie.

In the afternoon we enjoyed the lake toys and Uncle Ryan rented a jet ski. Connor and Aunt Abby went out on a pedal boat, Paige and Graydon did some fishing and then went out on SUPs, Andrea and Amanda went out on kayaks, while Griffin floated around in a life vest.

The kids played outdoors until it was dark and that was the end of our Missouri adventure! We packed up in the evening and then departed on Friday.

The Gobles left super early in the morning, and we went to the airport and flew home without any issues. The wedding was beautiful, and it was a nice utilization of our trip to Missouri, to extend it a bit and to spend time at the lake with family. Unfortunately, Drew and Alli weren't able to join us, but we had a wonderful time with everyone else.
