Florida Dream House... under construction!

This past week we went under contract for our Florida house. There was a house for sale this summer that we'd fallen in love with that ended up selling. We were heartbroken at the time, but eventually realized that we could still work with the builder and build our own. We talked to a number of builders and even flew down to Florida recently to review all our options.

In the end, we decided to build a house that was very similar to the one that had been for sale. There were some other great builders in the area, but none of the floorplans were as perfect for our needs and our family. It's approx 4,000 sq ft with 5 bedrooms + office + game room and 4 bathrooms.

It's been exciting to pick out the house as well as the lot and all the other options. The lot is on a quiet cul-de-sac and isn't too far away from the house that was for sale this summer. We negotiated the price and contract terms this past week and believe we're getting a good price for the home. It will be plenty big for our family and any visitors that would like to visit us!

A picture of me on the lot where we plan to build. I'm standing approximately in the back yard which overlooks a small pond.

We have to do a "design center" appointment in the next couple of months to pick out many other interior options, but we've already picked out a lot. We decided to do a custom island in the kitchen that is pretty enormous, a coffered ceiling in the family room, converted the Living Room into an office, put tray ceilings in all the rooms we were allowed, put a 4 panel 12 foot pocket sliding door in the Family room that opens completely to the Lanai, and also screened in the covered Lanai.

Our realtor in Florida took a video drive through of the neighborhood.

We're super excited it's all underway! They anticipate 8 months until completion, which puts us around the 4th of July. Hopefully it's smooth sailing on the build job!
